Stop Gratification

Preventing illegal gratuities to safeguard neutrality, institutional dignity, and the trust of students and the public.

Gratification means gifts to civil servants or state officials—including money, goods, discounts, facilities, or other benefits related to their position—unless exempted by law.

On campus, gratification may relate to assessment, selection, procurement, or academic services. Politely declining and reporting helps protect everyone.

What to watch for

  • Gifts or money tied to assessment, examinations, or supervision approvals.
  • Leisure trips or hospitality aimed at influencing official decisions.
  • Personal discounts or perks from parties currently contracting with the institution.
  • High-value gifts before selection or procurement processes.
  • Using one’s position to solicit unofficial benefits from students or partners.

Report gratification

If you are offered or asked for something that may violate the rules, report it promptly so it can be handled through proper procedures.
